Kimpton Park Way tip opens 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 2pm Sunday. Cars must book a slot; closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Sutton’s tip, the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre at Kimpton Park Way, opens 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 2pm on Sunday for cars, pedestrians and bikes. It is off Oldfields Road (A217), SM3 9QH, and every car visit has to be booked in advance: turn up without a slot and you will not get in (Sutton Council, find us and opening times).

The quick answer

  • Cars: 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, 9am to 2pm Sunday, and 9am to 5pm on bank holidays other than Christmas and New Year.
  • Book a slot first, up to 14 days ahead. Each household gets 24 car bookings a year. On foot or by bike, no booking is needed.
  • Christmas: open 9am to 12pm on Christmas Eve, closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

The council’s page gives these as standing hours rather than a 2026 notice, so they already cover this Christmas. In 2026 Christmas Eve is a Thursday, Christmas Day a Friday and Boxing Day a Saturday, with the bank holiday on Monday 28 December; New Year’s Day is a Friday. The same page links a gate webcam so you can see how busy the site is before you set off.

Booking a visit

The rules are on the council’s booking page:

  • Visits by car or van are by appointment only. You can book up to 14 days in advance, and new slots are released each day.
  • You can cancel or change a booking up to 2 hours before the slot, using the links in the confirmation email. A no-show still counts against your allowance.
  • If you need help unloading, say so when you book or tell the gate staff.
  • On foot or by bike there is no booking; use the pedestrian gate and bring ID.

How many visits you get

The fair usage policy sets a yearly cap per household (Sutton Council, fair usage and vehicle access):

  • Cars: 24 bookings per calendar year.
  • Vans and large vehicles: 8 bookings or 500kg per household per calendar year, whichever comes first. Any van counts, including hire vans, as do pick-ups, minibuses with 10 or more seats and any vehicle with side panels instead of rear windows.
  • Banned outright: vehicles over 3.5 tonnes or 5 metres long, Luton box vans and other high-sided vehicles, tippers, anything with more than four wheels, and a car and trailer longer than 5 metres combined.

If you are close to the 24-visit limit you can ask for more through the council’s booking enquiries form. The council says 99.9% of residents are not affected by the cap.

What to bring

You must be a Sutton resident, and the gate staff can ask for proof of identity and address on paper. Electronic copies are not accepted. The council’s list includes a UK driving licence, a passport, a utility bill or bank statement from the last 3 months, a council tax statement from the last 12 months and a Freedom Pass (Sutton Council, accepted ID).

What it takes, and what it does not

The site takes household waste and recycling only, not trade waste, and that includes rubbish from building or garden work done at your home by someone you paid. Among the things it accepts for recycling are Christmas trees, electricals, fridges and freezers, garden waste, plasterboard, gas cylinders, car batteries, engine oil, wood and disposable vapes. Mattresses, carpet and hard plastics go in for disposal. It will not take asbestos, antifreeze, chemicals, oil-based paint or petrol (Sutton Council, what is accepted).

Rubble costs money after two bags. The first 2 sacks of DIY rubble per visit are free, up to 6 sacks are accepted, and each of the 4 beyond the free two costs £5.80, whatever its size up to 50 litres. You are limited to four rubble visits in any four-week period, and you must tick the rubble box when you book (Sutton Council, rubble charging policy).

Items in good, clean, working order can go to the Community Reuse Shop on the same site instead of a skip.

Over Christmas

The tip is the fallback when collections change over the festive period. Our Sutton Christmas bin collections page tracks the council’s revised dates, which last year came out on 17 December, and the garden waste break from 6 to 31 January 2027. Your regular round is on our Sutton bin collection days page. Kimpton Park Way sits off the A217, so check Sutton roadworks and travel before a Saturday run.
